Description

THE premiere ‘Third Stream’ recording, from the movement’s founding father, Maestro Gunther Schuller…

Pulitzer Prize recipient and Down Beat Hall of Fame/Lifetime Achievement Award winner Gunther Schuller conducts first-ever recordings of his own jazz compositions and arrangements from the years 1947-1966. Guest artist, tuba/bass clarinet virtuoso Howard Johnson joins Boston’s most talented big band, Orange Then Blue, for hard-swinging arrangements of standards such as “Blue Moon“ and “Anthropology,” as well as Schuller’s own “Night Music” and “Jumpin’ in the Future” (the first completely atonal jazz chart). These treasures from the halcyon days of cool jazz are a must for every jazz lover.

Digitally recorded, with extensive, historical liner notes by Steve Elman (former WBUR Jazz DJ and current contributor to Arts Fuse).
