Description

Classical rarities!

Considered one of the most profound works to spring from Mozart’s inspired pen, the Sinfonia Concertante, K 364, is heard here in a fascinating early nineteenth century arrangement for string sextet.  The Grande Sestetto Concertante is performed with vitality and flair by the pride of the Midwest’s chamber music scene, the Minneapolis Artists Ensemble, a collective of top players from the ranks of the Minnesota and Atlanta orchestras.

Mozart himself handed on the torch of composition to his student Johann Nepomuk Hummel, who eventually established himself as one of the great piano virtuosi of his day.  Also a prolific and original composer, his Quintet, Opus 87, made brilliant use of the keyboard while formulating the concept of piano quintet instrumentation which Schumann, Schubert, and Brahms would subsequently exploit to great ends.

"A stunning performance of both works."
